Methodology
newsEgg does not classify outlets as left or right. You do, in private.
Bias is perspective. Two reasonable people, looking at the same outlet, will place it differently — and they'll both be right about what they see. So we built newsEgg to never publish a per-outlet political lean. Instead, every reader classifies the outlets they care about themselves, and the news-diet tracker rolls up against those personal labels. Unclassified outlets show as a grey wedge — that's your blindspot, made visible.
What we DO publish per outlet (objective)
- Ownership notes — factual ownership / funding context for each outlet, with no editorial judgment.
AI usage: story headlines and summaries are generated by an LLM from the RSS headline and dek only. AI never assigns an outlet a political lean — that is always you.
External references you can opt into
During onboarding (and later in Settings), you can import starting classifications from Media Bias/Fact Check as additive presets — your edits always override. The Reuters Institute report is cited below for transparency but isn't currently importable (see note).
- Media Bias/Fact Check — Western media-bias rater; covers a slice of Indian English outlets on political axis.
- Reuters Institute Digital News Report (India) — annual audience-perception survey. Not currently importable: the India report doesn't publish a per-outlet left–right rating, so there's nothing per-outlet to import. Cited here as a reference only.
Sources we ingest
newsEgg ingests only primary publishers and wire services — never other consumer aggregators.
We read each outlet only through its public RSS feed — headline, dek, link, and timestamp. We do not scrape, render, or store the article's full HTML or body text. To read the full piece you always click through to the publisher's own page, where they keep their traffic, ads, and paywall.
